The Silver Tsunami: Navigating Canada's Geriatric Growth
October 2025
Canada's aging demographic—often dubbed the 'Silver Tsunami'—presents an unprecedented challenge to the healthcare system, particularly in managing chronic conditions like pain. As an IMG with a background in health tech, I believe the solution lies not just in increasing manpower, but in strategic educational innovation and technology deployment.
I recently had the privilege of meeting an educational innovator whose work focused on personalized chronic pain management for older adults. Their approach leveraged digital health tools to track medication efficacy and side effects in real-time, providing crucial data for primary care providers. This interaction cemented my belief that our educational efforts must be immediately translated into accessible, user-friendly technological tools.
The urgency is real. Older Canadians deserve better, integrated care that respects their complexity. By combining rigorous medical knowledge with entrepreneurial zeal, we can build the platforms needed to educate the next generation of healthcare providers and empower our elders with better public health literacy. This commitment to educational technology is what drives my work in medical education consulting.
